Fire activity is escalating at Alaska’s 750-acre Nelchina Glacier Fire, located near the Glenn Highway, as crews focus on the northern perimeter. While reduced activity is noted in the southern and eastern areas due to moisture and cooler temperatures, efforts to contain the fire include as installing hose lines and pumps around critical structures.

A Blackhawk helicopter from the Alaska National Guard is aiding suppression with water drops, while heavy machinery, including masticators to clear vegetation, is being deployed to protect the Eureka Roadhouse. Ground crews, including a Wyoming fire module, are actively monitoring and managing fire behavior.

Travelers on the Glenn Highway, particularly near mile marker 128, are advised to proceed with caution due to active operations and reduced visibility from smoke. Public safety remains a priority as efforts continue to protect infrastructure and manage fire movement northward.
