The Alberta government has made a significant amendment to support riparian restoration by removing the requirement for a temporary diversion licence for small projects utilizing up to 100 cubic meters of water daily. This change, praised by restoration experts like Andrew Renaux of Leaf Ninjas, aims to reduce flood and drought risks, protect watersheds, and enhance project efficiency by cutting bureaucratic delays. Officials stress that healthy vegetation around waterways will restore ecosystems, prevent erosion, and improve water quality. New technologies, such as solar-powered drip systems, will further increase watering efficiency. Alberta’s Watershed Resiliency and Restoration Program also offers grants for such initiatives.
