On January 20, 2024, the Jennings Environmental Education Center hosted its 23rd annual Prairie Improvement Day, where over 80 community volunteers helped manage Pennsylvania’s only prairie ecosystem. They removed competing shrubs to ensure the habitat thrives for native plants and wildlife, including the endangered eastern massasauga rattlesnake. The results of their efforts will be visible during the prairie’s summer bloom. Volunteers were thanked with custom soup mugs and a buffet of 15 soups, along with breakfast sandwiches prepared by Prospect BSA Troop 33.

In another highlight, Natalie Lamagna joined Stream Restoration Incorporated as their newest environmental scientist. With degrees in Environmental Science, she aims to work on various watershed restoration projects, focusing on abandoned mine drainage. Her fieldwork and interaction with watershed groups are among her favorite aspects of the job.
