Wheatland County’s council voted to ask the province to reconsider ending the Watershed Resiliency and Restoration Program, which funds environmental projects on agricultural land. The province is expected to stop accepting new applications after fulfilling existing commitments. This decision was discussed by the Agricultural Service Board, which requested municipal support for advocacy to continue the program, crucial for local producers in protecting waterways like Rosebud and Crowfoot creeks. Council emphasized the program’s importance and approved sending a letter to Alberta’s Minister of Environment and Protected Areas expressing disappointment and urging for alternatives or replacements.
