The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has announced funding for 15 projects aimed at restoring and enhancing salmon and steelhead habitat, totaling over $15 million. Notable projects include the Salmon River Restoration Council’s Windler Floodplain Habitat Enhancement Project, which will improve habitat connectivity and promote riparian vegetation.

CDFW Director Charlton H. Bonham emphasized the importance of these initiatives in adapting to climate change and supporting native fish populations. The projects are funded through the Fisheries Restoration Grant Program and include contributions from federal programs and recent legislation.

Among the funded projects are efforts to remove invasive plant species, install large wood structures to increase habitat complexity, and improve fish passage through culvert replacements. These initiatives align with broader recovery objectives for state and federal fisheries and aim to enhance the resilience of California’s aquatic ecosystems in the face of climate challenges.
