The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is committed to using scientific research for sustainable land and resource management. In Utah’s Birch Creek, the Cedar City Field Office has worked for over a decade on restoring the riparian zone affected by cattle grazing and water flow issues. This restoration involved creating low-tech structures that mimic beaver dams, which help pool water and support diverse plant and aquatic life. The initiative has successfully improved water quality, ground water recharge, and riparian habitats, earning recognition from the American Fisheries Society. This project is part of the “Unleashing the Science” series, underscoring the use of science in responsible environmental management.
