The House Agriculture, Water & Natural Resources Committee in Colorado passed HB25-1009, a bill aimed at preventing and mitigating wildfires by encouraging local governments to reduce dead or dry vegetation that fuels fires. Sponsored by Representatives Tisha Mauro and Junie Joseph, the bill emphasizes proactive measures to enhance community safety amid year-round wildfire conditions. It aims to empower local communities and fire districts to create programs assisting property owners in removing hazardous vegetation, which includes dry leaves, grass, and pine needles. The committee also passed HB25-1039, extending legal immunity to property owners for emergencies that are not due to their negligence, with a unanimous vote.
