Oregon Governor Tina Kotek reported having “constructive conversations” with members of President Trump’s cabinet regarding wildfire funding and staffing for the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) during her recent trip to Washington, D.C. Kotek mentioned that Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins would be restarting wildfire grants soon, which have been delayed under the Trump administration. Oregon secured $218 million for wildfire preparedness, but federal reimbursement delays are a concern. Additionally, Kotek urged Trump’s team to address job reductions at BPA, crucial for maintaining the Northwest’s power grid. However, she expressed disappointment over a tense exchange between Trump and another governor on transgender sports participation, which overshadowed their otherwise productive discussions.
