On a sunny day at Rockville Hills Regional Park, third graders from Suisun Valley K-8 School engaged in the Solano Resource Conservation District’s (Solano RCD) Watershed Explorers Program, which aims to teach students about environmental stewardship and local watersheds. This year, over 1,800 third graders from across Solano County are participating, with 42% of the county’s third graders expected to benefit from the program.

Students learn about human impact on the environment during in-class lessons using maps and models before exploring their local watershed during field trips. Activities include observing aquatic organisms and planting native wildflower seeds, fostering hands-on experiences that connect classroom knowledge to nature. The program is free for schools, supported by various local partners, and serves to instill sustainable practices in students. More information about the program is available through Solano RCD.
