Kapalua Golf has donated $500,000 to the nonprofit Aloha Puʻu Kukui, bringing the total contribution to $1 million to restore the West Maui Puʻu Kukui watershed. This funding focuses on invasive plant removal and replanting native forests, critical for maintaining Maui’s water supply. The watershed, historically one of the wettest areas, has seen rainfall decrease—impacting aquifer replenishment. Research indicates that each dollar invested in watershed protection yields about 580 gallons of groundwater. Efforts include planting endemic Wiliwili trees and ongoing conservation monitoring. Aloha Puʻu Kukui aims to protect and restore the watershed, vital for community sustainability.
