In July, Lancaster County experienced record rainfall, challenging local stormwater solutions. Manheim saw nearly 7 inches of rain on July 1, and Mount Joy received 7.5 inches on July 14, damaging newly-planted vegetation. Shane Zimmerman of the Steinman Foundation emphasized the need for improved water quality and stormwater management.

Various projects, such as the Blue-Green Connector and Long’s Park Wetlands, demonstrated resilience against flooding, with the wetlands effectively managing runoff. The Conewago Creek Restoration Project, initiated in 2006, facilitated better flood management, reducing flooding occurrences significantly. A farm in Mount Joy faced severe damage from consecutive storms, but recovery efforts are underway.

Overall, the recent weather events underscore the importance of enhancing local infrastructure to manage stormwater effectively. For further contributions on resilient projects, the community is encouraged to share their experiences.
