Albemarle County has reached the halfway point in its Biscuit Run Stream restoration project, aiming to improve water quality and reduce erosion. The project involves installing log jam structures along the stream to mimic beaver dams, allowing storm flows to escape the stream banks and enter the floodplain, thereby reducing erosion and creating wetlands. These wetlands will enhance wildlife and plant habitats and mitigate flooding downstream. The restoration is part of a broader effort to develop Biscuit Run Park, which includes building trails, a mountain bike course, and sports fields. The park is expected to open to the public this fall. (cbs19news.com)
