The Quartz Creek Ecosystem Restoration Project has reached a significant milestone by completing major in-water work, enhancing wildlife habitats and increasing resilience against floods and wildfires in the McKenzie River watershed. The project, involving partners like EWEB, McKenzie Watershed Council, and USDA Forest Service, has revitalized 1.8 miles of Quartz Creek, improving water flow and sediment management. The restoration aims to create healthier streams and enhance fire resilience by expanding the floodplain to 275 acres. Project manager Lara Colley emphasized the importance of ecological disturbances for restoration. The completion is seen as a celebration, with hopes for a thriving aquatic ecosystem, including Chinook salmon and beavers.
