Utah’s Watershed Restoration Initiative, established in 2006, has significantly improved the state’s watersheds and habitats. In the fiscal year 2024-2025, 144,433 acres were restored, including 13,960 acres affected by wildfires. Key objectives include enhancing watershed health, increasing water quality, and supporting sustainable resource use.

Over $31 million was invested by over 63 partners, including government agencies and conservation groups. The program’s efforts included aerial seeding after wildfires, tree removal for sagebrush preservation, and stream restoration through innovative techniques.

Since its inception, the initiative has improved nearly 3 million acres through over 2,900 projects, benefiting wildlife and local communities. Restoration efforts continue in areas impacted by recent fires.
