The Agoura Hills City Council has approved a Community Wildfire Protection Plan to enhance wildfire safety and secure grant funding for mitigation. This plan, adopted unanimously on May 27, builds on a prior risk assessment that identified high-risk areas and tailored recommendations for risk reduction through vegetation management, home hardening, public education, and emergency preparedness.

Funded by Cal Fire’s Wildfire Prevention Grants Program, the plan prioritizes projects like clearing brush along roads and trails. Community recommendations include improving emergency communication and infrastructure during power shutoffs, and increasing public education on defensible space.

Developed with input from various agencies and community feedback, the plan highlights the challenges of implementation due to the multitude of stakeholders involved. Key topics discussed included evacuation paths and traffic safety, with concerns raised about congestion and accessibility during emergencies. The council’s approval is seen as a step towards addressing community concerns about wildfire risks and evacuation routes. Council members emphasized the importance of community engagement in ongoing safety efforts.
