The Hoopa Valley Airport is temporarily closed as it supports firefighting efforts for a wildfire in the area. The fire, initially reported as two separate instances near Mile Post 16 on Highway 96, has merged into a single incident covering approximately 50 acres. Despite steep terrain complicating firefighting efforts, firefighters have made progress and the fire has not expanded beyond its containment objectives.

An evacuation warning is in place for specific zones due to potential changes in fire behavior. Residents are advised to prepare for possible evacuations. Highway 96 is fully closed, and motorists should use Dowd-Nixon Road as an alternate route. For ongoing updates, residents can check local emergency services or the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office website.
