The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking watershed submissions to enhance water quality in the state. A new focus watershed could receive up to $1.5 million from 2026 to 2028 to address non-point source pollution, a major issue caused by agriculture, forestry, and urban development. This type of pollution is the leading cause of water impairment in Montana, introducing harmful pollutants like sediment and nutrients. The selected watershed will get $500,000 annually, funded by the U.S. EPA’s Clean Water Act, to support environmental projects aimed at reducing pollution. Applications are due by January 3, 2025.
