Hydrologists at the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) will conduct a 12-month water-sampling project at Las Moras Springs near Brackettville, Texas, to understand its relationship with the Pinto Creek watershed and enhance water management. Led by researcher Mauricio Flores, the study aims to identify the springs’ water source using advanced chemical testing. The Las Moras Springs, vital for local water supply and habitat for endangered species, face threats from excessive groundwater pumping and drought. This initiative, funded by a $50,000 grant from the Coypu Foundation, seeks to preserve Texas’s sensitive water resources. For more information, visit the SwRI website.
