In the final meeting of the “Art and Science of the Mohawk River Watershed” class, students showcased their creative projects. Environment and sustainability majors explored the intersection of art and science while studying the Mohawk River. The course, designed by Anna Davidson, emphasized diverse approaches to understanding the watershed through ecological art, scientific inquiry, and Indigenous knowledge. Students created individual pieces like Justin Chen’s abstract data visualization of bird species and Olivia Fisher’s functional sculpture for clean water. They also collaborated on community art projects, including “The Mohawk River Canoe Project,” aimed at delivering local environmental messages to lawmakers. Their work will be exhibited this summer at various locations. Davidson plans to offer a similar course focused on art and water in the next academic year.
