A large fire burned approximately 140 acres in Mount Vernon, Alabama, starting near Andry Road around 10 a.m. Fire crews from various local departments and the Alabama Forestry Commission responded to contain the flames, which posed a threat to nearby homes. Fortunately, no damage to homes or injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and officials have warned residents to exercise caution due to conditions that could reignite the fire. Regional Forester Benji Elmore emphasized the importance of not igniting fires, even in controlled settings, due to high winds and low humidity. Drivers were advised to proceed with caution in the smoke, as it could worsen throughout the night.
