Two projects in Berks County will receive $190,876 through the 2026 Schuylkill River Restoration Fund for improving water quality and reducing agricultural runoff. Announced by Schuylkill River Greenways, a total of $653,402 will support eight projects across the Schuylkill River Watershed.
Berks Nature will utilize $99,800 for upgrades at MIL JOY Farm, enhancing manure storage and stormwater controls to prevent runoff into Maiden Creek. An additional $91,076 will fund seven riparian restoration projects, restoring nearly 6,000 feet of streamside habitat and planting over 1,700 native trees and shrubs in various watersheds.
These initiatives aim to stabilize streambanks and enhance water quality, addressing problems related to agricultural runoff and stream erosion. Since its establishment in 2006, the Schuylkill River Restoration Fund has allocated over $6 million for environmental improvements, benefiting millions reliant on the river for drinking water and local resources.
