The Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) is initiating a stream restoration project at Turkeycock Run in Bren Mar Park, addressing significant erosion and ecological decline. The design phase is set for completion in late summer or early fall of 2025. Erosion has impacted stream banks, threatening a nearby sanitary sewer, and has led to reduced aquatic diversity.

The restoration will mimic natural stream processes using rock, wood, and native vegetation, aiming to stabilize the banks and enhance water quality. The project will remove 72 large trees to facilitate access and will replace invasive species with natives. Construction will follow permitting, lasting up to two years, funded by the Stormwater Service District tax, with initial design costs of $805,000 and future construction funding contingent on budget allocations.
