The European Geosciences Union (EGU) conference, the largest geosciences event in Europe, took place in April 2023 in Vienna, attracting 18,831 attendees and showcasing 16,357 presentations on various topics, including climate change, natural hazards, and space sciences. This gathering provides vital insights for the insurance industry, aiding in the development of innovative solutions to tackle increased weather-related losses due to climate change.

Key discussions focused on how natural disasters, such as droughts and floods, are interconnected and the importance of understanding these complexities for effective risk mitigation. Research on streamflow regimes and wildfire risk assessments aims to enhance preparedness and response strategies.

The MYRIAD-EU project seeks to model multi-hazard scenarios to improve community and insurance industry resilience against natural hazards. Presentations highlighted the need for timely access to environmental data for better decision-making and adaptation strategies, emphasizing collaborative approaches to address the impacts of climate change and its associated risks.
