In late June, the author faced an unexpected family emergency, prompting reflection on the importance of family and community. After returning home from helping, they discovered the Oak Ridge Fire was devastating the Navajo Nation, consuming nearly 10,000 acres and prompting concern for those affected. The author experienced a sense of helplessness but felt a strong urge to contribute, recalling lessons from family about the importance of helping others.

Throughout the night, they engaged in online updates and discussions about the fire, feeling intertwined with the collective trauma of distant community members. This led to the realization that sharing feelings of helplessness could also provide comfort. Ultimately, they decided to help by writing and contributing monetarily, reinforcing the idea that even from afar, one can support those in need. The next morning, with the fire still escalating, the author was reminded that they must continue to respond when family—and community—calls.
