Greek emergency services are fighting multiple wildfires as a severe heatwave peaks, with temperatures exceeding 45°C (113°F). The fires are active in Peloponnese, Evia, and Kythera, notably near Drosopigi, where evacuations have occurred. Authorities issued a red Category 5 alert due to extreme fire risk. Over 100 firefighters, along with aircraft, are responding to blazes fueled by strong winds. The heatwave, which began a week ago, is expected to continue until Monday. Assistance from the EU has been requested to combat the rapidly spreading fires.
