Idaho is implementing a standardized "Ready, Set, Go" wildfire evacuation system to enhance clarity in emergency alerts as wildfires loom during a dry spring. This program introduces three levels:

  • Ready: Stay aware and prepare for possible evacuation.
  • Set: Be ready to leave at a moment’s notice.
  • Go: Evacuate immediately when instructed.

South Fremont Fire Chief Chris Hill stressed the importance of a consistent approach to help residents respond effectively. This initiative follows Governor Brad Little’s 2024 wildfire response report advocating improved evacuation planning and public messaging. While messaging is now uniform, local sheriffs will remain responsible for evacuation orders. Officials warn of a potentially severe fire season and urge residents to familiarize themselves with the new system and stay updated through local agencies.
