Laguna Beach has secured $334,000 in grant funding from FEMA and the California Office of Emergency Services for hazard mitigation in two fuel modification zones, Hobo and Diamond canyons. Fire Marshal Robert Montaghami stated that the projects aim to manage combustible vegetation to reduce wildfire risks, focusing on removing dead plants, thinning brush, and maintaining ember-resistant zones. The city has already completed necessary environmental studies and budgeted $445,470 for initial project phases, including biological studies and environmental design. Councilwoman Hallie Jones expressed satisfaction with the sustainable approach to fire risk management in these sensitive areas.
