Homeowners in five Nevada-side Lake Tahoe communities can receive rebates of up to $5,000 to fireproof their properties through a new wildfire defense program. The initiative, led by the Nevada Tahoe Conservation District and Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, offers reimbursements of up to 50% for approved defensible space work in areas like Upper Kingsbury and Zephyr Heights. Homeowners must first schedule a defensible space inspection to identify vulnerabilities, such as dangerous vegetation. Work must be completed within 90 days of approval, and funding comes from the USDA Forest Service and the Nevada Division of Forestry. The program aims to mitigate wildfire risks by improving defensible spaces around homes.
