In northern Idaho, two firefighters were fatally shot and a third seriously injured after responding to a deliberately set brush fire, which turned out to be a trap. The ambush occurred near Canfield Mountain, with gunfire erupting shortly after crews arrived. Over 300 law enforcement officials joined a manhunt, but the smoke from the fire complicated efforts. A deceased man, believed to be the shooter, was found near the scene with a firearm. The firefighters worked for the local fire department and will be honored in Spokane, Washington. The injured firefighter is undergoing surgery. The incident has left the normally quiet community of Coeur d’Alene in shock, prompting calls for prayers and increased vigilance. The investigation is ongoing, with concerns about additional potential weapons in the area.
