In fall 2020, Colorado experienced its two largest wildfires, the Cameron Peak Fire and the East Troublesome Fire, which devastated nearly 30,000 acres within Rocky Mountain National Park. Recently, around $4 million in federal funding has been released for the restoration of lands and streams affected by these fires in the Upper Colorado River Basin watershed. This funding was initially frozen in February but was released in April, although no explanation for the freeze was provided by the federal government. Northern Water, a key agency involved in the restoration efforts, confirmed the release of funds.

The story is part of a collaboration between The Colorado Sun and Water Education Colorado.
