Parishioners from Corpus Christi Church in Pacific Palisades and Sacred Heart Church in Altadena held Mass to mark a year since wildfires devastated their communities. The services provided survivors an opportunity for reflection and prayer amid ongoing rebuilding challenges. Father Gilbert Guzmán urged attendees to recognize they are not defined by their circumstances, while 19 candles were lit in memory of those who died in the Eaton Fire.
At Corpus Christi’s memorial Mass at St. Monica Church, Msgr. Liam Kidney emphasized community support and healing. He presented a framed apostolic blessing from Pope Leo XIV to acknowledge those who assisted fire victims. LA Fire Captain Bryan Nassour, who rescued the tabernacle from Corpus Christi, received accolades. Kidney expressed confidence in rebuilding efforts, mentioning plans for community input and the school’s reopening in September, assuring that the Palisades will rise again as they follow God’s plan.
