Governor Tina Kotek has appointed Kacey KC, currently Nevada’s state forester, to lead Oregon’s 115-year-old Department of Forestry, pending confirmation by the state Senate. If approved, KC would be the department’s first female director. Her experience includes an eight-year tenure as Nevada’s State Forester Firewarden and roles within national forestry associations. Kotek highlighted KC’s skills in partnership-building to tackle complex issues. The appointment follows significant controversies within the agency, including a search for emergency funding and workplace misconduct investigations. KC holds a forestry degree from the University of Montana and has experience in wildfire management, with plans to enhance relationships in Oregon. Her starting salary would be $19,700 monthly, increasing to $21,069 after six months.
