The Government of Canada and the City of Mississauga are investing over $680,000 to restore Iggy Kaneff Park’s floodplain forest habitat. This project will enhance biodiversity and climate resilience by restoring 1.1 hectares of habitat, planting 1,000 trees, 6,000 shrubs, and 2,000 ground cover plants, and constructing 1,400 square meters of wetlands. Invasive species will also be managed. The initiative aims to improve flood resilience and community green spaces, with comments from local leaders emphasizing its environmental and recreational benefits. The federal government is contributing $453,406 through the Natural Infrastructure Fund, which supports climate resilience and biodiversity initiatives.
