Smoke from Canadian wildfires has shrouded the Northeast, but thunderstorms are expected to clear the air ahead of the World Cup final on Sunday in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Despite ongoing air quality warnings, meteorologists predict significant improvements. Heavy rain and storms caused sheltering at MetLife Stadium, where Spain’s training session was halted due to weather conditions.

Most harmful smoke is expected to move away, leaving only a faint haze. Air quality is set to improve from “unhealthy for sensitive groups” to “moderate,” posing little risk to the general public. Temperatures will be around 80°F (27°C) with light breezes, creating favorable conditions for the match.

Wildfires in Canada and Minnesota have led to widespread evacuations and air quality alerts. Hundreds of active fires have been reported, exacerbated by climate change. U.S. officials have criticized the situation, with President Trump indicating a response, while Canadian Prime Minister Carney emphasized shared responsibility for climate issues.
