The Chesapeake Bay earned a grade of C (50%), with the Watershed Health scoring C+ (57%). This year’s report is critical as 2025 marks a key deadline for restoration goals. The overall Bay score dropped five points from last year, attributed to extreme weather patterns, including droughts and intense rainfall, causing runoff.

Despite this downturn, long-term trends show improvement since the 1980s, thanks to regional management efforts, such as nutrient reduction strategies and habitat restoration. However, economic indicators reflect both job growth and significant income inequality. Additionally, heat vulnerability remains a concern for communities.

Key stakeholders advocate for continued support of restoration efforts and collaboration among various organizations to address the ongoing challenges. The report underscores the importance of science and community engagement in maintaining and improving Bay health.
