Two wildfires, the Timber Fire and Plaskett Fire, have burned over 55,000 acres in Monterey County, California. The Timber Fire, ignited on August 8 near Big Sur, has scorched 25,165 acres with significant firefighting resources deployed, including approximately 1,600 personnel. Three firefighters were injured, and portions of Highway 1 are closed with ongoing evacuation orders. The Plaskett Fire, which started two weeks ago on August 26 near Plaskett, has burned 29,862 acres and is 47% contained, with 2,177 personnel combating it. Santa Rosa Catholic Church in Cambria serves as an evacuation shelter for those affected.
