A wildfire in New Blaine, Arkansas, burned nearly 400 acres and destroyed buildings, threatening around 200 homes before firefighters contained it. Starting near an abandoned building, the fire’s cause is under investigation but not deemed intentional. Dry conditions and various possible ignition sources, including downed power lines and welding sparks, may have contributed. Evacuations were ordered as firefighters and U.S. Forest Service planes worked to protect nearby neighborhoods. Fire Management Officer Wesley McKinney noted the fire had high potential for rapid escalation and emphasized this has been one of Arkansas’s worst fire seasons in recent years.
