The American Red Cross emphasized that wildfire threats persist into fall, evidenced by recent responses to fires in Walla Walla and Benton counties, which forced evacuations and the opening of evacuation centers. Meteorologist Ted Buehner warned that dry conditions east of the Cascades remain a concern, with windy weather exacerbating risks. He advised the public to avoid actions that could start fires, adhere to local burn bans, and stay informed about evacuation updates. A statewide ban on most outdoor burning was in effect until September 30, with continued calls to check local regulations.
