The NOAA’s Bay Watershed Education and Training (B-WET) program provides hands-on environmental education for K-12 teachers and students across the U.S., funding 134 projects with over $7 million in 2017. The program emphasizes meaningful watershed educational experiences (MWEEs) and aims to enhance environmental literacy. Highlights of funded projects include collaborative efforts in Pennsylvania, a 10-week afterschool program in Hawaii, and comprehensive training for Texas middle school teachers about state watersheds. B-WET operates in seven regions: California, Chesapeake Bay, Great Lakes, Gulf of Mexico, Hawaii, New England, and the Pacific Northwest, encouraging partnerships with local NOAA offices. Grantees were selected through a rigorous review process, ensuring quality and impact in environmental education.
