NOAA has awarded $750,000 in funding for nine new projects in Fiscal Year 2023 through the Chesapeake Bay-Watershed Education and Training (B-WET) program. These projects in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and New York aim to provide students and teachers in the Chesapeake Bay watershed with Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEEs), combining outdoor and classroom learning to address local environmental issues. This year’s grants and 19 continuing projects will impact over 10,000 students and 500 teachers, enhancing environmental literacy and stewardship. Specific projects include oyster education for fourth graders in Maryland, systemic environmental literacy collaborations in Virginia, and the establishment of MWEEs in New York and Pennsylvania. The B-WET program, initiated in 2002, has evolved to support comprehensive environmental education initiatives.
