Agriculture significantly impacts surrounding ecosystems, often negatively, depending on practices and regional variables. Key environmental issues tied to agriculture include climate change, deforestation, soil degradation, and pollution.

Climate change is notably linked to agriculture through the release of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide, exacerbated by fertilization and pesticide use, which also harms soil and water quality and affects biodiversity. Deforestation, driven by practices such as slash-and-burn farming, diminishes habitats and contributes to climate change.

Irrigation can deplete water sources and lead to soil problems, while pollutant use poses long-term risks to soil and air quality. Overall, the negative environmental effects of agriculture necessitate reformed practices to mitigate impacts on our planet.
