Cal Fire is urging residents in El Dorado County to prepare for the fire season by mowing and clearing defensible space, especially early in the day to avoid rising temperatures. Resident Tom Beam shared how his cleared land saved his property from the nearby Bonanza Fire. Cal Fire emphasizes the importance of “Zone Zero,” which includes removing flammable vegetation within five feet of homes. Access to properties is crucial for firefighting efforts, as more resources are needed due to worsening fire conditions statewide. Governor Newsom criticized the depletion of National Guard firefighting crews and highlighted state investments in fire management. Residents are advised to act by mowing, clearing spaces, and preparing evacuation plans.
