Amazon is supporting a watershed restoration project in California’s Upper Mokelumne River Basin, focusing on 26,000 acres of the Eldorado National Forest. This initiative aims to enhance water supply and reduce wildfire risk, with restoration crews set to thin overgrown vegetation and restore native trees this spring and summer. The project could increase downstream water availability by over 264 million gallons annually while protecting endangered species like the Sierra Nevada yellow-legged frog.

Funding comes from a Forest Resilience Bond combining public and private capital. U.S. Forest Service, Upper Mokelumne River Watershed Authority, and various local tribes are among the partners. The restoration aims to mitigate wildfire risks and improve water quality for Northern California communities. Amazon’s involvement aligns with its goal to make Amazon Web Services water positive by 2030, having reached 53% of that target. The company supports over 45 global water replenishment projects, emphasizing collaborative solutions to shared environmental challenges.
