On February 11, 2026, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) announced over $44 million in grants to enhance water quality and habitat restoration in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The funding, which includes nearly $31 million in non-federal contributions, aims to achieve a total conservation impact of $75 million through 72 grants from the Chesapeake Bay Innovative Nutrient and Sediment Reduction and Small Watershed Grants programs.

These funds will support projects that restore riparian buffers, wetlands, and implement agricultural best practices, improving water quality and supporting local communities. Notable grant recipients include Catoctin Land Trust, Ducks Unlimited, and Trout Unlimited, all engaging in critical conservation efforts across various regions.

Since 1999, NFWF has invested over $400 million through the Chesapeake Bay Stewardship Fund, demonstrating a long-term commitment to conservation in the area.
