Kenya is receiving a USD 1.65 million investment from Coca-Cola to restore key watersheds in the Upper-Tana and Mid-Galana basins, aiming to enhance water security for Nairobi and adjacent communities. This initiative, part of the Africa Water Stewardship Initiative, focuses on watershed restoration and agroforestry, including planting indigenous trees and implementing sustainable land management practices.

Key measures entail creating farm ponds, fruit orchards, and promoting alternative livelihoods to bolster community resilience and food security. This local initiative fits within a broader USD 25 million Africa-wide program targeting water-related challenges in 20 countries by 2030, led by the Global Water Challenge in partnership with various conservation organizations.

Coca-Cola emphasizes the urgency of addressing water insecurity and enhancing access to water while collaborating with governments and local communities to develop effective solutions. The project is expected to improve biodiversity, climate resilience, and livelihood opportunities, demonstrating the efficacy of public-private partnerships in addressing critical environmental issues.
