Rep. Adam Gray (D-Merced) and Rep. Young Kim (R-Anaheim Hills) introduced the Wildfire Response and Preparedness (WRAP) Act, aiming for a 30-minute national response time for wildfire emergencies on federal lands. This bipartisan bill seeks to enhance national fire suppression by enabling quick engagement with emerging fire conditions. Gray emphasized the urgent need for rapid responses to protect communities and lives from wildfires.

The WRAP Act is linked to a Senate bill requiring swift deployment of fire suppression resources, ideally within three hours. Proponents like Bob Roper from the Western Fire Chiefs Association advocate for improved wildland fire response capabilities. Paul Petersen from the United Aerial Firefighters Association supports establishing aerial response standards for effective incident management.

The recent Eaton Fire in Los Angeles County, which caused substantial destruction, underscores the critical need for timely wildfire responses.
