The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Habitat Council has allocated over $3.4 million from hunting and fishing license sales for 71 habitat restoration projects in the 2025-26 fiscal year. This funding will support various conservation efforts, including stream and forest restoration and public access improvements. Notably, over $916,000 will be distributed for maintenance across Utah’s wildlife management areas.

Key projects include:

  • Steed Pond Improvements: $111,321 for fishing access and dock refurbishments.
  • Weber Riparian Project: $100,000 for aspen regeneration and stream restoration.
  • Gooseberry Habitat Project: $100,000 for enhancing big game habitat.
  • Indian Peaks Improvements: $100,000 for habitat work in the southwest desert.

Since 2006, the Habitat Council has funded over $47.3 million for 1,591 projects, aiding in preserving vital habitats. The council was established to manage license revenue and includes members from the DWR and public representatives. All funding is coordinated through Utah’s Watershed Restoration Initiative.
