Nearly a year after a significant wildfire devastated Pacific Palisades, destroying 7,000 structures and displacing many, LA Mayor Karen Bass announced the completion of a new home, marking a hopeful milestone in recovery. However, the home, built by Thomas James Homes, is not a true rebuild for those displaced, which frustrated residents still navigating rebuilding challenges. Although Bass stated there are 390 homes actively under construction, critics argue this number is inadequate compared to the thousands lost.

Residents like Jaimie Geller, who faced difficulties securing permits and insurance, express disappointment and concern about the extended timeline for full recovery. Experts highlight the need for better coordination in the rebuilding process and advocate for improved planning measures to prevent future disasters. While some progress has been made, doubts linger about the community’s restoration timeline, with estimates extending potentially to 20 years. Residents emphasize emotional ties to their homes, contrasting with developers’ more detached approach.
