A Chico nonprofit, River Partners, is spearheading two major restoration projects along the Sacramento River to enhance salmon populations, restore wildlife habitats, and increase public access to nature. Collaborating with agencies like the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, the projects, Rancho Breisgau and Battle Creek Ranch, aim to reconnect critical habitats and promote environmental resilience.

Rancho Breisgau Restoration focuses on 306 acres at the confluence of Battle Creek and the Sacramento River, starting with an initial 130-acre phase. The project will improve water quality and support endangered species, while providing recreational opportunities for visitors.

Battle Creek Ranch Restoration, acquired with a $15.05 million grant, aims to restore a crucial salmon stream by eliminating irrigation diversions and rehabilitating habitats. Although currently closed to the public, future plans include recreational access post-restoration.

Overall, these efforts are vital for ecological recovery and enhancing the region’s natural resources.
