Glaciated areas offer various benefits and challenges.

Tourism: Attracts visitors for activities like mountain climbing and water sports, but can lead to local concerns about traffic, littering, and rising house prices due to second homes.

Farming: Sheep farming is prevalent despite harsh conditions. Some advocate for stopping this practice to allow for rewilding, aiming to restore natural habitats.

Forestry: Land is often used for timber production with coniferous trees suited to cold climates. However, monoculture planting limits biodiversity.

Quarrying: Extracting valuable rock, such as limestone, for construction can cause visual and noise pollution and damage local habitats.

Overall, while glaciated areas are beneficial for tourism, farming, forestry, and quarrying, they also pose environmental and community challenges.
